Our mission has always been to celebrate and defend the people and institutions that make our communities strong, our neighborhood public schools and the leaders who serve them.
In my recent column, I shared some reflections about a growing and troubling trend: the erosion of trust in our locally elected school boards and administrators. These are our friends, neighbors, and fellow parents, people who give of their time and talents to make decisions that directly affect our kids and our community.
Too often, they are caught in the middle of a broken system, one where state leaders have steadily shifted the financial burden for public education onto local taxpayers while simultaneously sowing doubt about the integrity of local governance. This is not just unfair to our educators; it is unfair to every Texan who values local control and accountability.
My hope is that we remember who we are as Texans, a people who believe in community, common sense, and fairness. Before we rush to judgment or assume the worst of our local leaders, let’s take time to understand the challenges they face and the forces that have put them there.
Because at the end of the day, strong schools make strong communities, and that is something worth protecting together.
