Texas public schools just delivered something worth celebrating. Of the 405,019 students who made up the class of 2024, more than nine out of ten (90.7 percent) graduated within four years. That's not just a statistic. That's hundreds of thousands of young Texans walking across a stage, ready for what's next.
What makes these numbers even more meaningful is the direction they're moving. Compared to the class of 2023, graduation rates went up and dropout rates went down. The four-year dropout rate for the class of 2024 landed at 5.8 percent, lower than the year before. Progress like this doesn't happen by accident. It's the result of educators showing up every single day, of school leaders making hard decisions, and of communities investing in the belief that every student deserves a path forward.
This is what Texas public schools make possible. And it's why telling this story, clearly, consistently, and loudly, is exactly what Friends of Texas Public Schools is here to do.
