BILLBOARD CAMPAIGN SPEAKS
OUT FOR TEXAS PUBLIC SCHOOLS
AUSTIN, Texas (June 2005) –
Friends of Texas Public Schools (FOTPS) is encouraging
Texans to show their support for the Texas public
school system with a billboard campaign beginning
this month in Houston, Dallas and Austin promoting
the great things happening within public education.
Billboards are going up in major market locations
around Houston and Dallas, donated to the organization
by Viacom Outdoor; Reagan Outdoor in Austin will contribute
1 billboard in a heavy traffic area to FOTPS efforts
as well.
The campaign is part of FOTPS’s commitment
to promoting the positive aspects of a public education
system that receives more criticism than praise in
Texas. “The Texas Education Agency recently
reported 85 percent of African-American, 86 percent
of Hispanic, and 95 percent of white high school seniors
passed all sections of the new TAKS test required
to graduate. We want everyone to know that despite
the legislative and educational challenges, Texas
students are learning. Hopefully, our billboards will
get people excited about the upcoming school year,”
Scott Milder, president of FOTPS said.
Thirteen total billboard graphics will be moved around
as different space becomes available. For the first
few months these will mostly be seen in Dallas/Fort
Worth, Houston and Austin. The number of billboards
will increase as the organization raises more money
to pay for production of additional billboard graphics.

with Texas. The goal is to raise morale and bring
a sense of optimism back to Texas public schools to
